Colorectal cancer in the elderly

Colorectal cancer occurs after the age of 75 in 50% of the case, but elderly patients are under-treated and far from an optimal management of their disease. Principles of colorectal cancer management after the age of 75 are theoretically the same than for younger patients, but physiological age; comorbidities and patient's wishes should be taking into account. Treatment should be individually based and discussed during multidisciplinary meeting with oncologists and geriatrics after a complete geriatric evaluation. Surgery remains the only curative treatment and should be discussed when feasible.
