Bow Tie Antenna with Metamaterial Loading for Selective Directivity and Improved Gain

摘要
This paper presents a bow tie antenna with and without metamaterial loading operating from 1.2 GHz to 1.45 GHz. Five layers, each consisting of a 4x5 array of split ring resonators (SRR) and modified split ring resonators (SRR) on a FR-4 substrate is placed around the antenna. The directivity in the E-plane is increased by a factor of two compared to the H-plane. The gain at 1.32 GHz for the antenna with SRR and modified SRR is equal to 2.84 dB and 2.82 dB respectively, compared to 1.77 dB of a bow tie antenna without metamaterial loading.
