An interactive driving simulator for tractors -: Virtual reality in agricultural engineering

摘要
Flight simulators as well as driving simulators for cars, trains and ships have been known for some years and are used in research and training. Now the Technical University of Dresden in cooperation with John Deere has developed an interactive driving simulator for tractors. It is based on a 6-DoF motion platform and a 180 degrees projection dome. The user interface consists of a generic tractor cab inside the dome, that is connected to the simulation computers via CAN-bus. The simulation system makes use of Open Source Software and runs on a cluster of Linux-PC's. The lecture will give an overview of the motivation, the development and the capabilities of the interactive driving simulator.
