Psychotherapy from Traditional to Modern

The differences of opinion among the various psychotherapeutic schools and trends represent a phenomenon that has occurred together with the birth of psychotherapy as a method of treatment for different psychopathological disorders. The present paper proposes to analyse two of the main psychotherapeutic trends, the first traditional, i.e. psychoanalysis, the second the cognitive-behaviourist therapy as a representative of the modernist current. The conclusions of this paper indicate the fact that there are a series of similarities between the two schools of psychotherapy, in other words, the differences between the traditional and the modern trends in psychotherapy are only formal, their aims and objectives being in fact similar.
