Micro running-in behavior of diamond-like carbon film

摘要
By an atomic force microscope (AFM), friction tests of DLC films were conducted against Al2O3 spherical tip with a radius of 2.5 mu m. The running-in process was decomposed through the controllable single-asperity contact provided by this microscopic method. Two sharp drops of friction coefficient were observed. The first is due to the formation of the transfer film on the Al2O3 microsphere and the second is attributed to the removal of oxygen layer.
