Restaurant menu translation in a tourist destination: a case study

摘要
Considering one of the major tourist attractions in the Canary Islands, there seems to be a mismatch between the presence of francophone tourists and the deficiencies identified in restaurant menu translations into French. Field data have been collected to constitute the corpus of this study: 18 real menus in French and Spanish from beachfront restaurants. Methodologically, after defining the corpus, the text type under examination is described and the translations are analysed, focusing on the high frequency of culturemes that can be found in this type of text. The aim is to illustrate the translation techniques, detect possible errors and propose solutions, with a view to ensuring that the translation contributes to conveying clearly the cultural reality of the tourist destination.
