Before a renovation that began 11 years ago, St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York was running on city steam, and its mechanical systems were in need of an upgrade. Following a $177 million renovation that touched all of the 139-year-old cathedral as far as the top of its spires, a geoexchange (geothermal) heat pump system now heats and cools the cathedral.
