Analysis of motivational profiles and their relationship to the importance of physical education in secondary school

The study objectives were, firstly, identify the different motivational profiles that exist in a sample of 846 teenager students in secondary education, taking into consideration the motivational orientations, motivational climate and continuous motivation and, secondly, to know the differences between these profiles in terms of the emphasis on Physical Education, sex and age of the students. This has been used as instrument of Achievement Goal Questionnaires 2x2 (AGQ), Learning and Performance Orientations in Physical Education Classes Questionnaire (LAPOPECQ), Sport Motivation Scale (SMS) and the scale of the Importance and Utility granted by the student to Physical Education (IEF). The cluster analysis identified three different profiles: a not self-determined profile, a self-determined profile intermediate and finally a self-determined profile. The results of univariate analysis show that students who are less self-determined profile are men, aged 14 and those who give less importance to the subject of Physical Education. In the interim self profile included mainly male adolescents aged between 12 and 14 and provide an intermediate importance to Physical Education lessons. Finally, the self-determined profile is composed mainly by women, by pupils between 12 and 14 and by those who value Physical Education.
