摘要：
The Full-length paper discusses the history of underbalanced drilling (UBD) and the evolution of the specialized equipment required. Whether onshore or offshore, a key component of the UBD system (UBDS) is a rotating control head (RCH). Development of RCHs enabled the technology of onshore UBD and encouraged development of other pieces of the UBD tool chest. Several offshore variations of the RCH allow deepwater UBD.
