Analysis of scientific production on the management category of protected areas indexed in the scopus and web of science database: search for research that addresses the categorization process

The choice of the management category of a Protected Area (PA) is a fundamental part of the PA creation processes, because, through it, the uses and non-allowed uses will be defined, the chosen category will serve as a guideline to think the plan of management. Thus, the objective was to identify, through bibliometric analysis, articles that address the process of choosing the PA management category. The methodology chosen to guide the research was a quantitative approach at first and then qualitative. The databases used were scopus and web of science, 15 articles were selected for qualitative investigation of the content, including approaches to the categories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), analyzing the need to review the chosen management categories, according to the specific demands of each area, regarding methodologies that guide the PA categorization process, only one article proposes something, thus demonstrating the importance of further research.
