摘要
The following article deals with different appropriations and representations of contemporary Black America and the black female body based on the photo-essays White Shoes (2012-ongoing) and My Country (2016-2019), by the photographer and visual artist Nona Faustine (1977-). The article calls the reader's attention to the way these photo-essays become narratives that promote an emancipatory recollection of the African-American legacy, as they instigate alternative ways of reading diasporic Africanity beyond race and slavery.
