摘要
A laboratory investigation was initiated to evaluate the potential for anaerobic, microbial mineralization of 1,2-DCA to CO2 under Mn(IV)-reducing conditions. Efficient anaerobic oxidation of[1,2-C-14] dichloroethane (DCA) to (CO2)-C-14 under Mn(IV)-reducing conditions was observed. Approximately 65% mineralization of [1,2-C-14] DCA was observed after 62 days. No products other than (CO2)-C-14 were observed under these conditions. The results of this study indicate that anaerobic microbial oxidation under Mn(IV)-reducing conditions may be a significant mechanism for natural attenuation of chloroethane contaminants in ground-water systems.
