Between comparative literature and world literatureTM

This article presents world literature as a new paradigm emerging within comparative literary studies over the last twenty years. Focusing on key stages in this development, Kola explores not only its conceptual dimension, but also its institutional and organizational anchoring in the landscape of journals, institutions, conferences, publication strategies, etc., which allows him to engage with recent criticism of this paradigm. Finally, Kola contextualizes world literature within recent changes in the academy, thematizing its adaptation to the demands of the market and to find a compromise between comparative literature studies and world literature a compromise that takes the form of comparative world literature studies.
