DESIGN OF OPTIMAL ROTARY INDUCTIVE POWER TRANSFER SYSTEM

摘要
This paper presents an approach for design and optimization of rotary inductive power transfer system (RIPT) in ultrasonic applications with especial emphasis on hard metals drilling with axial and rotational motion. An approach using 2-D finite-element analysis modelling is used to optimize electrical parameters of transmitting and receiving windings as well as their mechanical structures. Simulation of the leakage magnetic flux shows that when the base of the transmitting and receiving parts is made of aluminium, losses are twice lower compared to losses with a base of stainless steel. From the 2-D mechanical analysis at 20 000 rpm, carried out for both types of materials, it was found that only in the instance of aluminium base, the equivalent and normal stresses have values of about 65 MPa, which is considerably less than the admissible level and therefore this determines the final material choice for that element.. Flux 2D and Cosmos/M software programs have been used in studying and analysing the electromagnetic and mechanical properties of the RIFT structure at 1.2 kW of power transfer over a gap of 1-4 mm and rotary speed of 20 000 rpm. By means of simulation and experimental results the 89-91% efficiency of the developed RIPT was determined: transmitting part 94-95% and receiving part 95-96%.
