Systemic Aspergillosis in some wild bird species at Kayseri Zoo

摘要
This study consists of the clinical, microbiological and pathological findings with the result of itraconazol treatment of the systemic aspergillosis encountered in various wild birds belonged to Kayseri Zoo. As a consequence, on different times, 2 long legged buzzards (Buteo rufinus), 1 scops owl (Otus scops) and 1 white pelican (Pelecanus crispus) were brought to the Department of Pathology, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University Erciyes. In necropsy of these animal, caseous-nodular foci were seen in various internal organs. The samples were microbiologically examined concerning tuberculosis and micotic infections. Besides, the tissue samples were stained with Periodic acid Schiff (PAS), Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) and Ziehl-Neelsen (ZN) staining procedures for histopathological examination. In the microbiological examination, Aspergillus fumigatus was isolated and identified from organs. Also, in histopathological examination, necrotic granulomas and hyphae and spores of fungi were observed. After diagnosis of infection, 4 infected and 8 healthy flamingos (Pheenicopterus ruber) and 1 infected mandarin duck (Aix galericulato) were treated with a dose of 10 mg/kg live weight/day, adding to drinking water itraconazole for 30 days.
