摘要
Finite element methods were used to study monolithic telescoping actuators. Monolithic telescoping actuators are comprised of a continuous piezoelectric piece in the form of concentric tubes and end caps connected mechanically in series and electricity in parallel. These actuators, compact in design and potentially low in cost, provide high displacements when electrically activated The potential uses of such devices include applications for aerospace and low tech commercial industries. A three dimensional finite element model of a prototype monolithic telescoping actuator was created and, based on deflections and stress criterion, the actuator was redesigned to increase performance. These computational parametric studies were used to evaluate design alternatives, enabling the rapid development of the new actuator design.
