摘要
The paper provides evidence corroborating the usefulness of the mathematical models of water distribution systems when applied as a tool to support the design of water disinfection in a water-pipe network. Making use of a calibrated and verified model representing a section of the water supply system, simulation was carried out for the variations in residual chlorine content in the water, thus enabling the indication of the zones where the disinfectant was in deficiency, and subsequently allowing for the suggestion where the chlorination booster station should be located. The solution suggested, which provides bacteriological safety of the water in the pipeline, was verified under hydraulic conditions equivalent to those of a moderate and minimal water demand, using samples of water that differed in quality. There are two major prerequistes for a safe use of the model in decision-making: a reliable database and a well-organized process of updating the available information on the water distribution system.
