Lead and zinc in the street dust of Zielona Gora, Poland

The lead and zinc contents (total and readily soluble) of street dust from arterial roads in Zielona Gora, Poland were studied. Dust samples were collected twice, in 56 places within the city. Street-dust concentrations of these metals were found to be higher than those in soils adjacent to the streets sampled. Lead and zinc levels in street dust met Polish soil and ground standards (Regulation of the Minister of Environment 9.09.2002) for industrial land and communication routes, but not for urban areas. However, levels in street dust were similar to those reported for other cities in the world.
