A national strategy to develop educational projects supported on ICT for bilingual intercultural education in Mexico

The main objectives of the General Coordination for Bilingual Intercultural Education of Mexico are to provide basic and post-basic education to all the ethnic groups in the country and to teach intercultural issues to all Mexicans. One way to achieve this goal is the development of educational projects based on information and communication technologies. We conducted a study of feasibility in order to find the ideal medium or combination of media to reach all the ethnic groups in Mexico for the purpose of delivering educational materials to them. We describe here the main results of the study and the early stages of the implementation of some of the projects associated with it, a pilot course based on CD about Huichol Culture, the maquette of the Intercultural Portal and the video based support material on teaching intercultural matters in elementary school for indigenous, mestizo and multicultural schools.
