摘要
People who are blind use a range of tools and training to optimize their travel in the built environment. However, changes in the built environment have brought new challenges for blind mobility. Developments in technology, whether used by the person who is blind or designed within the built environment offer ways to overcome mobility challenges. Technology used by a person who is blind includes GPS units, ultrasonic detectors, and smartphone applications that offer travel system information. Technology designed to increase accessibility to the built environment includes accessible pedestrian signals, smart paint, talking signs, autonomous vehicles, integrated travel systems, and devices that communicate between the pedestrian and the built environment.
