BIOGEOGRAPHIC DESCRIPTION AND EVALUATION OF THE BIRD POPULATION OF CHILEAN PATAGONIA

This article describes and assesses the birds inhabiting the Chilean Patagonia region. The fact that we face some unique geographical and mesologic features with a peculiar climate, a latitudinal location between 36 and 56 south, a clear oceanic influence, spaces well preserved with a quite well preserved potential vegetation, an Andean mountain chain with a meridian direction, as well as human influences through different landuses and practices, makes peculiar the list of present bird species. The valuation, according to various criteria, aims to attract attention to the need for conservation of these communities and their habitats.
