Synthesis of 3,6-diisobutyl-3,6-dimethyl-1,2,4,5-tetraoxacyclohexane and the kinetic study of its thermal decomposition in solution

Isobutyl methyl ketone diperoxide (3,6-diisobutyl-3,6dimethyl-1,2,4,5-tretraoxacyclohexane, DPMBC) has been prepared by reaction of isobutyl ketone, hydrogen peroxide (30%) and sulfuric acid (70%) at -15 degrees C. This compound has been identified by GC/MS analysis and using its retention data in Temperature Programmed Gas Chromatography. Some comparison related with the reactivity, thermodynamic parameters and retention index can be done with its isomer, the cyclic diperoxide derived from terbutylmethylketone.On the other hand, the thermal decomposition reaction of DPMBC has been studied in light petroleum ether from 130,0 to 160,0 degrees C.
