HEALING IN LATIN TERMINOLOGY

The beginning of the article explains the ethimogy of the Romanian word asanare, draining usually, improvement and healing with the figurative sense. The word comes from the latin sanus(3) which expresses the condition of health referring to the body, mind and soul, aspects discussed in this work paper. The article provides information about all the meanings of the adjective sanus(3) and about its entire family of words, including terms belonging to all parts of speech. There are analyzed as ethimology and family of words the synonymous terms, such as salvus(3), valens, -ntis, firmus(3), incolumis(2), sospes,- itis. The paper work establishes also the antonyms for the term sanus(3) and gives information about their meanings and ethimology. Through the antonyms we enumerate: aeger(3), debilis(2), demens, -ntis, imbecillus(3), impotens, -ntis, nocens, -ntis, truncus(3), all expressing the illness, the weakness, the craziness. There are also reminded words wich express either the healing or the illnes: cura, -ae, febris, -is(f), pestis, -is(f), ulcus,-eris(n), morbus, -i, vulnus, -eris(n), pus, -uris(n) or the verbs: doleo, -ere, medeor, -eri, patior, pati, passus sum. The words are not analyzed only with reference to their meanings and ethimology, but there are also established connections in the context of Roman culture and civilization, referring to their use in the religion, medicine, law or literature. The final of the article presents the changes about the meaning of the Romanian word asanare, which estranges from the idea of healing, being used only in contexts with refence to the material aspect.
