Experience with different wear protection strategies for high-pressure grinding rolls

A report is given of the experience obtained at Heidelberger Zement AG with different wear protection strategies for high-pressure grinding rolls. The particular features of the bainitic tyres which have been used for some years are the low susceptibility to damage and long service lives, which contribute to the high reliability and cost-effectiveness of the high-pressure grinding rolls. Following the good results achieved with bainitic tyres at the Weisenau and Leimen works all the other high-pressure grinding rolls used at Heidelberger Cement will be converted to bainitic tyres.
