This study offers a model for interpreting the messages that amateur athletes display on their runner' bibs during half and full marathons in Valencia. To this end, we propose an interpretive method that takes into account the following factors: the addressor, the addressee, the time and space, relevant pragmatic information, intention and social relation between addressor and addressee.
