Industrial architecture has been marginal to art history studies. Owing to structural changes in society and the relocation of industry, it has recently become more appreciated. In this respect Sweden has been a pioneer in the Nordic countries. The article illustrates the situation of art history research of industrial architecture as a part of industrial heritage research. It reviews the studies and research work done in Finland and Sweden with additional comments on work in the other Nordic countries.
