Effects of micro-mixing in gas-phase turbulent jets

Scalar mixing in turbulent jets is modeled using a hybrid Monte Carlo PDF method which solves for the joint velocity-scalar PDE Molecular scalar mixing is modeled by: Interaction by Exchange with the Mean, Coalesence/Dispersion, binomial Langevin and Mapping Closure models. The concentration field is self-similar along rays emerging from the jets virtual origin. Scaled scalar PDF's are compared to measurements. All models yield good results but C/D yields the best agreement with the measurements close to the centerline. At the edge of the jet however, C/D yields incorrect results.
