摘要
Growth of information, especially in interior design, where the users need a healthy, safe, functional and aesthetical environment, is changing all lifestyles. Science is continually developing all the time. Researchers, especially educators, are constantly following the evolving knowledge track to improve their study programs. Each science field, nowadays, is splitting into different sub-fields due to speedy innovations, which cover the main areas of study, from Structure and Architecture to Interior Design. Objectives: it is important to clarify the components of any built environment, to focus on any missing information. Program learning outcomes need improvements for the benefits of Interior design students. Built environment courses need many specialized modules that enable the students to achieve the skills construction. Built environment do contain many elements and details. First, the Interior Design field: as interior treatments, furniture, furnishings and adequate environmental conditions, and incorporate all these items within its structure. Second, the Civil Engineering field: ensure a strong skeleton for the building. Third, the Architectural Design or the architectural layout: that envelop all of those elements giving the exterior shaping and help protecting interior users against exterior environmental conditions. These given points explain that the people in charge of any build environment consist of three main specialists: the interior designer, the civil engineer and the architect. From these three specialists, there are many different sub-specialists, each equally important. Therefore, we call all of them consultants. They all work together, complementing one another and rely totally on each other's contributions. Therefore, they work as one team to achieve one complete building environment. Methodology: thus each of those main three field of studies need to have a brief background of the others in order to attempt a greater integration which will result in the best mixture for the benefits results for the users. This, on the other hand, will affect the educational program of each of the three-study fields that will enable the graduates to confront real practical life situations, as they are creating one complete job. The curriculum design course should take into consideration the exploration of the two other fields in variable dosages, with adjustable focuses over specific courses that support each field of study to reach professionalism. Through my experience teaching interior design courses, I noticed the neglect of embracing the other fields. Conclusion: this research shall emphasize the interior design program and the course - Basics in Architectural Design - that will integrate the interior design graduates to understand the other fields of specializations within our built-environment in order to be able to work within any building multi-disciplinary team.
