Heart failure is a growing concern in health care today. Treatment options for end-stage heart failure include providing for optimal medical management or heart transplant. A left ventricular assist device may augment medical management and act as a bridge to transplant or lifetime therapy to promote quality of life. J Contin Educ Nurs 2009;40(4):150-151.
