A new genus and species of Agalliinae from Brazil (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae)

A new genus, Paranagallia, and a new species, P. takiyae sp. n., are described and illustrated from south Brazil. Paranagallia gen. n. can be distinguished from all other known genera of Agalliinae by morphological features such as: crown truncate in dorsal view, and in frontal view bearing well-developed foveae; face and pronotum strongly flattened; pronotum striated; pygofer L-shaped; styles not forked; subgenital plates fused to each other; segment X bearing sword-shaped processes; female pregenital sternum reduced and first tarsomere of the metathoracic tibiae bearing two platellae. Chaetotaxy characters of the metathoracic legs are for the first time illustrated through scanning electron microscopy.
