Thermodynamic analysis and evaluation on effect of fouling on performance of laminar convective heat transfer process, through a duct with constant wall temperature

Based on the first and second laws of thermodynamics simultaneously, the effect of fouling on the thermodynamic performance of fully developed laminar heat transfer process through a duct with constant wall temperature is investigated analytically. A criterion evaluating the effect of fouling is defined as the entropy generation increase rate per unit heat transfer rate. Numerical results of the effect of Reynolds number (not considering fouling), dimensionless inlet temperature difference and fouling layer thickness on the entropy generation increase rate per unit heat transfer rate are presented and discussed.
