Large urban projects and socio-environmental conflicts in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina

The Large Urban Projects, as a modality of urban development in expansion, acquire relevance in tourist cities associated with ski centers, where diverse processes of commodification of nature are manifested. In Argentine North Patagonia, there are small and intermediate cities that have been experiencing socio-environmental conflicts for some years due to the installation of these projects, where the case of Cerro Catedral of San Carlos de Bariloche is the most paradigmatic for its size and international recognition. An instrumental case study is developed, based on a qualitative methodology. It seeks to contribute to the discussion on the tensions inherent in the production of space and the emergence of socio-environmental conflicts in the territory, because of commodification of nature, high-lithing the productivity of these conflicts.
