摘要
The morphometric characteristics were studied in adult frogs (Rana arvalis) collected in the same Population during some years. All the characteristics studied. including the size of forelimbs and hindlimbs, were shown to be of greater average values in males than in females. The differences between sexes are preserved with adjustment for the body length variation. The same sexual differences were revealed earlier in the related species, R. temporaria, despite different trends in sexual dimorphisin in these two species. This similarity showed that in both species, the sexual selection favored males with longer limbs. The growth rate of R. arvalis individuals of both sexes after the first reproduction was similar, unlike that in individuals of R. temporaria. This fact is explained by a low efficiency of the selection favoring the increase in the length of R. arvalis female body and decrease in the efficiency of the selection for a greater length of male bodies.
