摘要
This article describes the development and validation of an achievement test for grade eight physics students in the Philippines under the new K-12 science curriculum. It is criterion-referenced (DepEd 2012), but the distracters were based on students' common misconceptions found in the literature. The original form of the test consisted of 101 two-tiered multiple-choice items that where validated (content and structure) by 4 university physics professors and a high school physics teacher. The test was revised and shown to the validators for approval. It was then pilot-tested to 277 students. After another round of test revision, the final version of the test, called the Grade Eight Physics Test (GEPT) was completed. It consisted of 40 multiple choice items. It was administered to 1060 Grade 8 students with a resulting Cronbach alpha of 0.824.
