Ranitidine bismuth citrate plus claritromycin combination for Helicobacter pylori eradication and healing of duodenal ulcer

Studies have been shown that ranitidine bismuth citrat (RBC) plus claritromycin (C) treatments are effective in Helicobacter pylori (Hp) eradication and healing of peptic ulcer. But the optimal drug regimen for Hp infection remains uncertain. In this study 40 Hp positive patients with duodenal ulcer were examinated to investigate the efficacy of therapies consisting of RBC and C. Rapid Ureas Test was used for HP. The patients were treated with RBC (2x400 mg a day, 4 weeks) and C (2x500 mg a day, 2 weeks). Forty cases completed the study. Four weeks after treatment, Hp eradication was achieved in 90% and healing duodenal ulcer was achieved in 95%. In conclusion, RBC plus C combination therapies are highly effective in eradication and healing of peptic ulcer.
