After the realization of the quark-gluon constituency of hadrons, highest attention was given to the description of all hadron structures in terms of these partons. It took deep understanding of the physics of systems with many degrees of freedom to realize that collective degrees of freedom are essential in hadron physics, too. This article presents three recent experiments of the electromagnetic production of pions, performed at the Mainz Microtron MAMI, showing that the pion is a constituent of the nucleon, indeed.
