Based on the broadband polarimetric differential interferometry (BPDI) technology, a complete prototype optical sensor instrumentation system was designed and implemented for on-line reliable and accurate high temperature measurement in a slagging coal gasifier, which operates under high temperatures and extremely corrosive conditions. A wide dynamic measurement range from room temperature up to 1600 degreesC with a resolution better than 0.1 degreesC and high accuracy is achieved; long-term operating stability has also been tested.
