摘要
The use of CHS members for bridges is a relatively new concept. Little has been published on this subject and no specific research has been carried out in the area. Existing codes and standards that were used in the design of recently constructed CHS truss bridges were shown to be incomplete - in particular those for the fatigue design of welded CHS joints. This has resulted in overly conservative and penalising designs. An experimental and analytical study of welded CHS joints typical to bridge construction is being conducted in order to clarify some of the uncertainties that exist in the determination of CHS bridge joint fatigue behaviour. Described here are the large-scale constant amplitude fatigue tests of CHS bridge joints being carried out. Some preliminary results from this study are presented.
