A STUDY ON UNDERGROUND PUBLIC SPACE IN BEIJING

Underground public space is an important public space in a city. Over the last decade, the high density areas lead to serious urban problems, and the urban landscape requirements bring needs of underground spaces, thus, the underground public spaces in Beijing have great development. The distribution of Beijing underground public spaces tends to be a spatial layout of double-axis and double-loop, and the functions are diverse such as Integrated, cultural, sports and leisure. This paper discusses the spatial distribution of Beijing underground public spaces, studies the spaces with different functions, and also looks forward to the possibility of underground Beijing City in the future.
