In December 1996, PM 4 of Gebr. Lang GmbH was rebuilt and an on-line Janus calender was installed, As a result the demand for high-grade DIP increased by 135% and could not possibly be met by line No. 2 with dual flotation that had been commissioned in 1992 end line No. I with single flotation. This is why the management decided in March 1997 to rebuild line No. 1. The article outlines the objectives of the rebuild, its concept and its implementation. Following a cost effectiveness evaluation, the results achieved are checked against the set aims.
