摘要：
The article studies some of the basic constituents of the English noun phrase by using a speaker-centred onomasiological approach. It is an attempt to define definiteness and indefiniteness in cognitive terms. Indefiniteness is concerned with values having to do with "analysis." Definiteness is memory-based uniqueness.
