Quality control in the drawing operation of two-piece printed cans

The deformation behavior of the curve nets on a two-piece grid printed can is a good indication of the quality in its drawing operation. To generate the curve net information on a grid an into a computer, a photo of the can is taken and then the grid points on the photo are mapped onto a two-dimensional plane coordinate system which associates with the cylindrical surface of the can. In order to use these generated curve nets of a can to reveal some information about problems in the drawing operation, an ideal behavior of a pseudo can is made up in this study. Thus, the stress patterns on a can are easily computed and displayed on a graphical display system. The problems occurring in the drawing operation of a two-piece printed cans then can be identified, which is valuable in studying the behavior of the can as well as for quality-control purposes.
