摘要
The research aimed to identify the social representations of female and male gender present in the selected sertanejas songs, articulating with issues related to media, popular culture and education. The methodology used was qualitative and were used as object of analysis and discussion 18 songs of the sertanejo genre that encompass three styles: root, romantic and university. It was observed in the analyzed songs that, the female representation is perceived as supporting with an optics that devalues and disqualifies the woman and the male enunciated is the representation of the protagonist man, who has a hegemonic, normative masculinity and power owner. The research also showed that music has the power to educate culturally, since the relations of interests, political and economic powers support this mass communication.
