Environmental risk assessment and risk management in some regions in Bulgaria

The concept for river rehabilitation was introduced in the modern water management in Bulgaria during the last decade. The implementation of this idea faces different interests and creates claims coming from various sectors, such as agriculture, farming, industry, mining activity, etc. A typical example for this is the basin of Ogosta river, which is one of the main tributaries of the Danube river in Bulgaria. Obviously an efficient water management plan is necessary for the rational use of natural resources as well as for the protection of human health in this important agricultural region. Scenarios studies are introduced in the decision making process. Since examples of similar studies are scarce, this paper contributes to the methodology of scenario studies and its application.
