Hyperboloidal model study of internal field emission from diamond emitters

A theoretical analysis of internal field emission is made to describe the measured emission from the roughened metal protruding into the nitrogen-doped diamond of a vacuum device. To take into account the effect of the geometry of the metal protrusion, we use the hyperboloidal model for the tip. By assuming that the internal emission from metal into diamond was identical to the field emission from the whole device, we calculate theoretical emission currents. A reasonable agreement exists between the theoretical and the experimental emission currents. The hyperboloidal model is also found to be appropriate in describing both the potential profile and the width of the depletion layer.
