CULPRITS OF ANXIETY IN PATIENTS SCHEDULED FOR MANDIBULAR THIRD MOLAR ODONTECTOMY

In recent years oral and maxillo-facial surgeons are facing more cases of patients requiring odontectomy of mandibular third molars and implicitly their fears regarding the surgical procedure. The present research aimed to identify the impact of some contextual and personal factors upon the level of anxiety reported by patients requiring odontectomy of mandibular third molars. The study was performed in 72 patients scheduled for odontectomy at the Oral and Maxillo-facial Surgery Clinic in Tirgu Mures between 2011 and 2013. The assessment tools used were developed by the research team and consisted of two questionnaires which were completed by the patients in several stages. The results showed a link between the past experience and the anxiety level of patients, and also highlighted the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and that of correct patient information.
