(Chemical Equation Presented) The dimeric pyrrole-imidazole alkaloid massadine chloride (1, see scheme) was isolated from the Caribbean sponge Stylissa caribica. The structure elucidation of massadine chloride and its transformation into massadine (3) via an intermediate "massadine aziridine" (2) is discussed. © 2007 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA.
