Highly Efficient Quasi-Optical Mode Converter for Coaxial ITER Gyrotron at FZK

摘要
A 2MW, CW, 170GHz, TE(34,19) mode coaxial-cavity gyrotron for electron cyclotron heating and current drive in ITER is under development in cooperation between European Research Institutions (EGYC*). A new method has been used to design a highly efficient quasi-optical (q.o.) mode converter for this gyrotron to transform the cavity mode into a fundamental Gaussian beam. The simulation results and low power measurements reveal that the fundamental Gaussian mode content can be enhanced to 97.7% at the output window plane.
