摘要
This paper presents a distributed collaborative assembly system for heterogeneous 3D models, named Via-VRML. It uses VRML standard as the 3D model carrier to resolve the compatible problem with heterogeneous 3D models in the process of collaborative design. This web-based system implements collaborative functions such as product pre-assembly, process layout, collision detection, instant communication, etc. via doing certain computations and modifications to VRML models. By providing the above functions for collaborative assembly design, Via-VRML can be used for geographically distributed design teams to organize dynamic and temporary 3D collaborative engineering discussions effectively.
