摘要：

We present a method to calculate the cut-off frequencies of cylindric, weakly guiding optical fibres. It can be applied to refraction index profiles which can be expanded in even powers of the distance from the fibre axis. The advantage of the approach lies in a final approximated formula that is valid for the mentioned profiles and depends on two parameters which are fixed by the-asymptotic distribution of the cut-off frequencies obtainable from the WKB approximation.
